How in the Hell is it Already Friday?

A survival guide for when time feels like it’s in fast-forward mode

Wait, WHAT? It's Friday already? Didn't we just have Monday? Wasn't it just January? And hold up—wasn't I just 25 years old five minutes ago?

If you're reading this while frantically checking your calendar and wondering if you've accidentally time-traveled, welcome to the club. The "Oh Shyte! Time is Moving Faster Than My Wi-Fi When I Need It Most" club. Population: everyone over the age of... well, anyone who's ever had to pay their own bills.

The Great Time Heist

Here's the thing—these days are absolutely SURFING BY like they're late for a very important date. One minute you're planning your week, the next minute you're staring at your weekend wondering where Wednesday went. It's like time is playing hide and seek, except it's really good at hiding and we're terrible at seeking.

Maybe it's the multiple obligations juggling act we're all performing. Maybe it's the competing tasks that multiply like rabbits. Maybe it's work responsibilities that somehow breed overnight. Or maybe—and hear me out—maybe we're just getting older, and time has decided to mess with us. Oh, father time!

It's genuinely scary sometimes. Not just the "oh no, I'm mortal" kind of scary (though that too), but the everyday panic of realizing its 6pm and you have exactly 2 hours to accomplish 5 things before your self-imposed 10pm bedtime. Yes, I said 10pm bedtime. We're embracing our inner grandparent energy here, and honestly? It's kind of liberating.

Why Time Feels Like It’s on Speed?

I think the older we get, the faster time genuinely feels like it flies. When you're 8 years old, summer vacation feels like an eternity (because it literally is a huge chunk of your entire life experience). When you're 35, summer feels like a long weekend that someone accidentally put on 2x speed.

Plus, we're ALL busier now. We're scrolling through social media, handling job responsibilities, solving problems that honestly aren't even ours to solve, and falling down TikTok rabbit holes at 11:47pm (no judgment—we've all been there). We're not able to HOLD ONTO the moments anymore. They slip through our fingers like that perfectly smooth stone you found at the beach but forgot to actually pick up.

Eeek!

Five Tiny Steps to Slow Down the Time Machine

But here's the good news: we're not completely powerless against the time warp. Here are 5 tiny steps I'm taking to try to catch my breath and actually experience my days instead of just surviving them. Join me, won't you?

  1. Start Your Day With "NOT TODAY DEVIL"
Before you even THINK about touching that phone (you know, the one that’s probably buzzing with 47 notifications from overnight), say it out loud to yourself and to the room: "NOT TODAY DEVIL." My joy WILL be experienced today. Fully. Then breathe. Actually breathe. This isn’t about toxic positivity—this is about setting the intention that today, you’re choosing joy over chaos. You’re declaring war against the time thieves before they even know you’re awake. Because they are waiting. But you can set your intentions!

  2. Give Yourself Your Morning 10% TITHE
Take a full hour—yes, a FULL HOUR—just for yourself at the top of the morning. Think of it as your 10% tithe to yourself. You tithe to your church, your savings, your causes you believe in. Well, I believe in YOU, so tithe to yourself too. Whether it’s taking a jog, journaling, stretching, sitting in silence with your tea, or jamming out to the blues in your kitchen—this hour is yours. Non-negotiable. Sacred. Protected.

  3. Set Your Timer Boundaries (And Actually Respect Them)
Here’s where we get real about time management. Set your calendar, set timers for each task, and here’s the kicker—set boundaries that you’re NOT breaking unless you absolutely MUST. Not "I should probably wrap this up" but actual hard stops. When the timer goes off, you’re done. That email can wait. That project can breathe without you for a minute. You’re teaching time to work with you instead of against you.

  4. Plan Your Soul-Happy Ride Home
This one’s, my favorite. Plan for a GOOD ride home with music that makes your soul happy. Not the news, not the podcast about productivity hacks, not silence filled with mental to-do lists. The MUSIC. The songs that make you want to sing off-key at red lights. And here’s the beautiful part—share one song with a friend. Send it to them. Bring them into your happiness. Spread that joy like it’s contagious (because it is).

  5. Cook Something Simple, Just for You
End your day by cooking a meal—something simple, just for yourself. It doesn’t have to be Instagram-worthy or complicated. Maybe it’s scrambled eggs for dinner. Maybe it’s pasta with butter and parmesan. The point is, you’re nourishing yourself intentionally. And here’s your permission slip: whatever else doesn’t get done today can wait until tomorrow. The world will not end. The tasks will still be there. But this moment of caring for yourself? This is happening right now.

The Beautiful Truth

Here's what I'm learning: time isn't actually moving faster. We're just not paying attention to it as it passes. We're living in fast-forward mode, always thinking about the next thing, the next deadline, the next weekend, the next vacation.

But what if—just what if—we could find little pockets of slow motion in our speed-of-light days? What if we could collect moments instead of just checking off tasks?

So yes, it's Friday already. Again. But maybe, just maybe, if we start practicing these tiny rebellions against the time thieves, next Friday we'll remember how we got here.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go take three deep breaths and figure out how to fit 5 things into the next 2 hours before my very sophisticated 10pm bedtime. GOOD GRIEF! Time might be surfing by, but at least we can learn to surf with it.

What's your favorite way to slow down time?

Queenie 💛
